Strange calls - The
Inventor The temperature was in the nineties, no breeze whatsoever. It was stifling hot. I ring the doorbell. A voice shouts out "come in". I walk into the living room & there is a man sitting in a lounge chair. He is wearing a starched shirt & tie & a sports jacket. His shoes are shined. There is not a hair out of place. There is not a bead of perspiration anywhere. I'm dripping wet & this guy is as cool as a cucumber. I think to myself "maybe he's a robot sent down from Mars". He leads me into the kitchen. On the table is a heavy looseleaf book with at least 200 pages. "I've drawn a few preliminary details of what I want to do" he says. I like it when people are prepared but this is ridiculous. At about page 6 I realize he has detailed every piece of lumber in the addition. I say "You didn't have to be so detailed" He says " I didn't want to loose count of the bolts, nuts & lock washers. Anyway I want to patent my idea. Room additions should not be built with nails. They don't hold up well you know" At this point I have come to several conclusions: I am wasting my time He is never going to build this addition. He thinks he has invented a new wheel & he wants to tell someone all about it. He is a nut case who doesn't know that it's as hot as blazes. There are more of these people walking around than there should be. My father used to say "There's more out than in" |
