The Dreaded
Contract
The contract signing should not be a nail biting,
frightful experience. Very simply the contract should
spell out exactly what the contractor is going to
include in the addition he is building, how much you
are going to pay him to do it, when he is to receive
payments & how much time it is going to take him to
complete the project.
It doesn't have to include the number of nails to be
used but it should have all the items that will exist
when he is finished. The type of foundation, roof
design, type & color of siding, number of outlets,
switches & a whole bunch of other items.
If you have done your homework before you sign you
will encounter very few problems. If you haven't done
your homework then you are asking for trouble.
Your aim is to buy exactly what you want at the best
available price.
The contractor knows the business very well & you
don't. You owe it to your self to make the effort to
learn the things you have to know before you sign up.
If you are buying a car then the brochure details a few
options you have available to you. It is an easy matter
to decide if you want this or that because it is laid out
in detail for you & the decisions are few.
When you are buying a room addition you are buying
something that has hundreds of possible combinations
& variables. It is much more difficult to buy than a
car.
Before you spend a whole bunch of money, do your
homework.
