Dormer Plans

Dormer building plans (blueprints) of any value will almost never be found on the internet. If you find anything close to what you are going to build it will be a small miracle & even if you do find them they will probably be worthless for your purposes.

 I am sorry to discourage you but that is the way it is. If you want to build a dormer yourself you are going to need a building permit. You cannot get a building permit without an approved set of building plans. These plans must show exact detail of all structual construction for the exact dormer being built. Otherwise the permit will not be issued.

Since dormers come in a thousand or more shapes & sizes including the exact windows, siding & roofing then finding the plan for your dormer is next to impossible.

So where are the plans?
The answer is that they do not yet exist until someone draws them to your specifications. An architect? Not necessarily. They are available from some contractors or draftsmen experienced in dormer construction & at a cost far less than an architect. It is only those plans from experienced people that have any value at all.

My best dormer advise is this: Do not attempt anything yourself except a very simple small dormer. Even then, unless you have some previous experience you are likely to get in over your head. If you want to save money on adding a dormer to your home let an experienced dormer team get the plans & permits & do the shell. (exterior) Then finish the interior yourself.
